OUR AFFILIATIONS

Bi-State Fabricators Association

For many years the American Institute of Steel Construction, Inc. co-sponsored local fabricator groups across the country. In our area the local group was called Missouri-Southern Illinois AISC Regional Advisory Committee. These local AISC associations consisted of AISC Member fabricators whose goals were to promote the design and use of fabricated structural steel for buildings, bridges and industrial facilities through education. This also provided a forum for fabricators to meet structural steel engineers. Affiliate members to the association consisted of suppliers to the steel industry, such as paint manufacturers, steel detailers, erectors, etc.

In 1994 our local group's name was changed to Bi-State Fabricators Association and its membership was then opened to non-AISC Member fabricators. The goals remain the same-to promote the use of fabricated structural steel. Educational activities include sponsoring student bridge competitions, offering tours of plant facilities, and stipends to offset the costs of educators to attend the National Steel Construction Conferences.

Southern Illinois Builders Association (SIBA)

Established in 1945, SIBA represents over 450 construction companies throughout Southern Illinois. SIBA is the largest regional contractor association in Illinois. Contractor members range in size from small, closely-held firms doing less than $250,000 volume per year, up to companies performing several million dollars in volume. It should also be noted that many SIBA firms perform work throughout the United States. SIBA is also an employer bargaining agent with the major construction crafts in Southern Illinois -- Carpenters, Cement Masons, Laborers, Teamsters, Iron Workers and Operating Engineers. Typically, the agreements cover the 39 Southern Illinois Counties. SIBA has plans rooms available to its members at two office locations (O'Fallon and Marion) for estimating purposes. Members have access to the plans rooms 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Weekly Bidders News service, which is sent to all members, tracks over 1,500 projects per year in Southern Illinois. SIBA is a full service Chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America serving contractors assisting in the areas of labor relations; safety; education; construction development; EEO; and representation with awarding agencies.
